RE-PLOT is a development firm focused on transformative issues, founded by Katy Shields, Nick Grimm and Vegard Beyer. We identify and develop untold stories at the intersection of global matters like the climate crisis – and human drama, the kind of narratives that major studios and streamers are actively seeking but struggle to find.
Drawing on decades of combined experience in film, journalism, and climate policy, we scout high-potential projects and provide development support to bring them to screen. Our favorite stories reveal the causes of our crises and guide us towards solutions. As one example, we reached and engaged audiences through our own successful true-crime climate science podcast with over 100,000 listeners, now part of a 2x Peabody nominated series. Several fiction and non-fiction projects (podcast and feature film) are in development.
We also offer consulting services to productions seeking authenticity and impact in climate storytelling – from script notes to expert sourcing to impact strategy.
KATY SHIELDS communicates about the complexity of our intertwined climate and social crises as an educator, campaigner, speaker, and writer. Originally from the UK, Katy studied business and economics and spent 15 years as a researcher and consultant for prominent media houses like The Economist, the Financial Times, and Newsweek. After the Paris Agreement she shifted her focus to advocacy; she has served as a city councillor, educator to mid-career professionals, and as chairperson of a major European environmental NGO. Upon discovering the untold true story behind the infamous 1972 MIT study ‘The Limits to Growth’, she co-created the documentary podcast “Tipping Point”. It earned five-star ratings across platforms, drew praise from leading sustainability scientists and thought leaders, and entered university curricula. Over the past decade, Katy has been a thought leader in crafting narratives on societal transformation and has built a significant network of activists, experts, and scholars within Europe and globally.
NICK GRIMM believes storytelling is one of the most powerful levers for systems change. Based in Los Angeles, he brings two decades of experience working in film and television and developing projects for Alcon Entertainment and Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions – where his work increasingly focused on stories that explore humanity’s intersection with critical systems. During the pandemic, Nick turned his attention, fulltime, to understanding the root causes and systems perpetuating growing inequality and the climate crisis. He earned a Master’s in Sustainability Leadership, completed the Terra.do Climate Fellowship, Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project, and became a LEED Green Associate. Nick joined RE-PLOT, a development firm creating bold, character-driven stories that illuminate the interconnected challenges of our time from climate change and inequality to planetary boundaries and systems transformation. Bridging sustainability expertise with narrative craft, he identifies and develops the kind of stories that help audiences, investors, and institutions imagine and act toward a livable, regenerative future.
VEGARD BEYER brings over a decade of experience in policy strategy and communications consulting, combined with a background in indie film and climate advocacy. Originally a youth activist, he has trained hundreds of climate organizers and co-founded a nonprofit climate consultancy that has completed more than 80 projects globally. Vegard’s expertise includes advising high-profile climate changemakers, companies, and policymakers, including members of national legislatures and the European Commission. He has provided strategic advice on climate and AI risks, advocacy strategy, communications, and movement-building, has prepared speakers for national TV debates, and has helped in writing op-eds for publications with circulation in the millions.
Consulting
We also help others through our consulting services. We have worked directly on issues such as the rise of AI, risks of natural and man-made pandemics, geopolitics and global injustices—with a focus on the climate crisis and sustainability.
Our consultancy services enable creatives in the writing or development stage to craft compelling stories that resonate with a wide audience. Our strength lies in making complex issues accessible and engaging across film, TV and podcasts, helping to challenge and change perceptions, while maintaining or even heightening entertainment value.
